Counter Gaza Rally in Balboa Park, San Diego–January 9th, 2011

On January 9th, 2011, the San Diego Israel Coalition held a counter Pro-Israel Protest to the Gaza Massacre Demonstration. Here are pictures from the event. Obviously, our side had a high turnout compared to the Palestinian side. It was a marvelous turnout and jovial event with singing, dancing, smiling, etc. Compared to the jovial and friendly Israel supporters, the Palestinian side resorted to shouting, screaming, and the like.

I was glad to be a part of this event with many of my friends and fellow Israel supporters!

About Gabriella Hoffman
Gabriella Hoffman is a senior at UC-San Diego who also balances life as a conservative activist. She’s majoring in Political Science and minoring in History. Unlike many out there today, Gabriella attributes her parents- Lithuanian immigrants- to her conservative upbringing. Her parents have a remarkable insight into conservatism because they fled the evil empire as political refugees in 1985 and entered the U.S. legally in 1986. Since age 9, she has watched Fox News and has been exposed to liberal injustices from early on. As a result, she is quite the firecracker in defending her conservative beliefs, and doesn’t hesitate to impart the corresponding message to friends and foes alike. Hoffman brought David Horowitz to campus May 2010, where he successfully highlighted the dangers involved in radical Islam with efforts like “Apartheid Week” and comments made by those proponents like Jumanah Albarhi. The event made national headlines, with mentions on Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity. She is one of the foremost conservative activists at UC-San Diego, having interned with Young America’s Foundation at the Reagan Ranch Center. Additionally, she works on The Rick Amato Show in San Diego-KCBQ 1170AM as an executive assistant/media relations correspondent. Hoffman also blogs for San Diego Rostra, blogs for David Horowitz’s NewsReal Blog, is Advertising Manager for UCSD’s conservative paper-The California Review, AmatoTalk.com, Student Free Press Association, and maintains her own blog: gabriellahoffman.wordpress.com.

Hey, I was there today just on the opposite side. I’m really interested in understanding how you think it’s acceptable to hold a ” counter rally” against us remembering the time when almost 1,400 Palestinians lost their lives. Seems a little bit fascist.

  4. kevin says:

“On January 9th, 2011, the San Diego Israel Coalition held a counter Pro-Israel Protest to the Gaza Massacre Demonstration.”

These are your words, you do admit it was a massacre. How can you support a massacre of any people?

Basically you’ve incriminated Israel and yourself as being compliant with massacring poor, displaced people.

    You’re proud of this?

    • Excuse me, but supporting Hamas and terrorist activities–let alone suicide bomb attacks–is unheard of.

You claim to be peaceful people, right? Then why does violence originate from the Palestinians? Correction:Philistinians/Arabs? “Palestinians” are the ones wreaking havoc and using violence to undermine Israel, the West, and Judeo-Christian ideals.

The PA and Hamas indoctrinate people through TV by using dolls and propaganda to condemn the West. Am I wrong? Or do you see merit to this?

Do you condemn or support Hamas? C’mon, do ya?

    • Adeon says:

Kevin: Are you feigning ignorance for dramatic effect here? Simple reading comprehension lesson. In the sentence “On January 9th, 2011, the San Diego Israel Coalition held a counter Pro-Israel Protest to the Gaza Massacre Demonstration.”
‘Gaza Massacre Demonstration’ is all one object in the sentence. That is what the rally was called. It is not an admission or acceptance of a “massacre”, nor a protesting of massacres. For example, if there was a “Protest to the Genghis Khan Humanitarian Demonstration”, I suppose you would be asking “How can you protest humanitarianism?”
You apparently are reading, or pretending to read it as “a counter Pro-Israel Protest to the Gaza massacre”, which is very clearly not what was said, nor implied.

      • kevin says:

I think I just read…oh yea, I did read…when Israeli soldiers use Palestinians as human shields. The practice is SO common the IDF even has a name for it “neighbour procedure.” I do understand that the IDF will openly condemn it because the state of Israel depends on US funding to exist and if Americans knew the brutality that the heroic people of Palestine faced on a daily basis by the cowardly Israeli army….Americans would not stand for it.

I really found it adorable the way you cow tailed and began singing the American national anthem after the blatantly racist H’tikvah.

I love how Israel is such a democratic state it does the following,

        1. Has roads set aside for Jews only.

        2. Is passing a law that forbids non-Jews from purchasing property or homes in Israel. ( enjoy that one American tax payers.)

        3. Let’s not forget your racist gem Eli Yashi, who wants to deny that Palestinians even have rights and wants to DEPORT non-Jews.

        4. The fact that Israel kept Gaza’s economy at a specific level just above collapse to cause as much damage as possible and so to not incite world wide uproar.

        5. The use of white phosphorus on condensed areas containing thousands of human beings.

These actions are literally happening or have happened in the past year alone. I think it would take days and days to document the horror the Zionists have done in the name of Judaism.

Oh, Gabriella…good usage of the word ” your people” Way to identify without knowing. I really hope you continue to do this really poor work.

We need more people like you to make it easier to point out your racist, reactionary and poorly described analysis.

But hey, what would I know….

My response to what you wrote is as follows.

See that massive amount of empty space? Yea, that’s my response.

  5. kevin says:

Hey, so I understand you want to be hostile. I am an American Jew who has family in Israel and who has deployed to Iraq twice. I can tell you first hand that the United States has ruined Iraq.

Violence does not originate from Palestinians. I’m assuming the force full removal and thievery of ones land can possibly incite some hatred.

The state of Israel is in consistent violations of UN resolutions, did and does not sign the nuclear-non-proliferation treaty and funnels 2.5 billion dollars yearly from the workers of the United States to support their murderous habit against the people of Palestine. I’m also assuming that the vast majority of people who were there in support of Israel A) Don’t speak Hebrew. B) Have never had to participate in any sort of conflict. and C) View Palestinians and Arabs with hostility.

Enjoy running your racist web site.

You are aware that Gaza is the most condensed populated area of people in the entire world, right? Did Glenn Beck not inform you of this?

At any rate I really am sad to see you high jack Judaism and infuse it with such poison as zionism.

    Viva Viva Palestine!

  6. Let’s not forget about the Muslims and Arabs who do support the State of Israel and it’s right to defend its population. These are a few. There are many more.

    Comments by Christine Quelch

    J. J. Surbeck, you are a lawyer who worked for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for 16 years. You claim to be a specialist in International Humanitarian Law, so you do not need me to explain how to examine UN resolutions. The world is a swill with legal documents that confirm the entitlement of all Palestinians to return to (and reclaim ownership of) the areas they lived in until 1949.

Palestine has been called Palestine for a long time. Your assertion that there is no such state as Palestine is a disgraceful piece of Israeli propaganda.

    Comments by J.J. Surbeck

Can you read and understand English? I wrote that there never was and there still isn’t anything called a Palestinian state. Therefore, you cannot say that the land was always theirs (besides the fact that their Muslim ancestors invaded in the 7th century and stole it from the Byzantines).

Some of them had ownership titles, yet, most of whom sold them to the Jews, leaving the workers of the land behind, but the majority of the land belonged to the Ottoman Empire, just like most of the land in the US belongs to the US government. It’s the same thing everywhere, whatever is not owned privately belongs to the State.

The Palestinians, and the Palestinians alone, bear full responsibility for rejecting every attempt made by Israel to sign a final peace agreement with them. Their game is clear: by remaining intransigeant and all-demanding, they are still nurturing the delusion that they will get more and even eventually replace Israel itself. The evidence shows that instead they have been losing more and more land of their future state, which could have been much larger, but which will in the end never see the light of day if they pursue that path.

    http://www.newbritainherald.com/articles/2010/11/25/news/doc4cef0f6cc3d9b574235708.txt

“It doesn’t take a genius to figure out if a country attacks another one and loses, it loses. Arab countries have tried to destroy Israel in 1948, 1967 and 1973… Do you think the Japanese and the Germans were in any position to dictate their terms at the end of WWII?”

“Among many distortions that Mezvinsky mentioned, there is a salient one: as losers the Palestinians who fled Israel in 1948 and 1967 are in no position to demand to come back…. And yet, they successfully concocted the myth that they have a so-called “Right of Return”, which is in fact yet another lie: there is no such thing anywhere in international law.

“Beware the “academics” who advocate a single state as a solution to the Middle East conflict. What they really mean is the destruction of Israel, the only Jewish State in the world, compared with 22 Arab ones, 57 Muslims and over 90 Christian ones. Why can’t the Arabs and the rest of the world leave it alone and let it be? Its surface is 0.6% of the land mass of its neighbors, for God’s sake! Is that too much to ask? “

    Poor land thieves.

“Hey man, I know I stole your home, killed your kids, destroyed your agricultural industry, built a massive wall to trap you in a sweltering ghetto, denied you basic human rights, routinely harass you, bomb you, use your children as human shields, deny you medical aid, destroy your schools, hospitals and infrastructure, remove your identity, claim you have no place in your former land……why can’t you guys just leave us alone?”

Israel has launched attacks on Syria, Lebanon , Iraq, Egypt, the people of Palestine.

Now threatens to do so on Iran, if Iran wont stop it’s inalienable right to enrich Uranium for peaceful purposes being a country ( israel has not) signed the nuclear non-proliferation treaty.

    Read article 4 of it.

    Womp womp womp.

  9. kevin says:

Gabriella those soldiers in Afghanistan that were murdering Afghans for sport…….

Do you condemn the entire U.S. Military? Come on…do ya?

  10. kevin says:

What I find to be disturbingly sad is your ability to justify the brutality of a people. You claim because people are not allowed to have a state with guns, tanks, weaponry that because they defend themselves they are terrorists.

How do you feel about the American revolution?

Do you only use the word terrorist when it fits your agenda?

    How about Al-urgun?

I would honestly compare your politics to Glenn Beck, and I know that makes your fascist, empty heart smile.

    It’s honestly sad.

As you can say in Hebrew ” O’khaleim sarateem.”

    That’s what you’re doing.

  11. kevin says:

You have addressed not ONE of my points. Not a single one. You result to shallow attempts to gain popularity and ignore every point I have brought up.

You’re really bad at this……I hope you don’t stick with political science. Or perhaps I do, you can join the ranks of Ann Coulter as long as you say enough outlandish garbage.

  12. Corina says:

I was there as well supporting the Palestinians is time for peace and justice. Thanks for posting.

  13. kevin says:

    Gabriella, you’ve lost.

    Come to reality.

  14. Dusty says:

Al Awda is still really from the shock.. They send this out:.

” What we saw from this demo is that the local Zionists have regrouped and reorganized, and that’s why they came out in numbers compared to ours. After last Sunday’s demo it is extremely important that we regroup, reassess, plan our approach to the next action given the new situation and go from there. We will still be stronger.

I am 100% sure, now more than ever, that we will win this. Please join us at our meeting this Sunday at 6 PM if you can and are willing to help.”

    Until return

  15. kevin says:

A zealot? oh boy oh boy.

Your’e just like a Zionist. ” No, I don’t need to justify anything I do or say.”

  16. kevin says:

I’m un-american and guilty of my roots?

What I find entertaining about right wing people is this, their inability to acknowledge reality.

I think D.r King would also agree with us on our stance in opposition to the Israeli apartheid state as well as our position on the on going occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Your political realm loves to credit Dr. King on several points but like I said before, you will always ignore the reality of what is going on. Un-American? The policy makers who put our lives in the trenches of the military industrial complex are un american.

If you’re so patriotic then go to Iraq and Afghanistan. Like I said I went there twice, how many times have you gone?

I love you arm chair patriots….weak, pathetic cowards. It’s so easy to support something from the comfort of your home.

Look, I’ll give you my email, we can meet up, I’ll bring you to a recruiter, I’ll make sure you don’t get screwed over, I’ll even show you land navigation and get you in shape!

Come on! Show me how ” American” you are!

This goes for any of your idiotic, cowardly, followers reading this pathetic blog.

If any of you want to ” serve your nation” and show how much more patriotic you are then me let me know, until then you have no right to question my political views.
