Counter Cultured Website Has Relaunched

Hello everyone!

As many of you know, I manage a culturally conservative blog with my sister called Counter Cultured. The website specifically caters to Millennials aged 18-29. We launched this endeavor in September 2012. And today, we’ve relaunched the website. Click here to check it out.

Additionally, we’ve extended the deadline for our “Do You Even #2A?” Video Project to January 9th, 2015. If you’re a Millennial who supports gun rights, definitely participate!

Expect more interviews, spicy topics, and hard-hitting commentary from us in 2015!

Best,

Gabriella

New Counter Cultured Article: 10 Ways to Survive in D.C. Without Losing Your Soul

My sister and I compiled this listicle at Counter Cultured on how millennials can survive in D.C. without becoming a part of the problem. Below is an excerpt:

Having lived in the area for some time now, we decided to compile a listicle of advice on how to succeed in D.C. All of these points are based on our own experiences and observations. We hope this list inspires others to reform the swamp from within, through the power of their character, honesty, and decency.

1. Keep your principles.

Have you ever been told to moderate your views to be accepted in the D.C. area? Don’t listen to this nonsense. D.C. culture is mysterious, exciting, and at times, scandalous. Someone will try to chide you for your beliefs. Don’t submit to them–especially if they’re an apologist for cronyism or big government. Don’t be fake; be yourself! We encourage you to stay true to your beliefs. People–especially prospective employers–appreciate honesty rather than feigned passion. Be passionate about conservatism, and don’t hold back your views. Don’t compromise your values either.

Picture2. There’s more to life than cocktail parties.

We certainly appreciate the art of imbibing here in the D.C. area, but recommend you don’t make it a daily ritual. (Remember, you’ve got a bank account balance to maintain!) As millennials, we’re inclined to try new things. Don’t simply stick to happy hours. Be SOCIALLY conservative and encourage your fellow political friends to try new things with you. Now that summer has started, go see a concert, attend festivals, try salsa dancing, host a cook-off, or get lost in one of the many museums here. Be spontaneous!

3. Don’t take advantage of your boss to get ahead.

Unfortunately, it’s commonplace for young men and women to sleep with their superiors in hopes of getting a higher, better-paid position in this town, especially on the Hill. Ladies and gentlemen, we kindly suggest you don’t fall for this one. Set yourself apart from others when you’re advancing your career by emphasizing your talents, abilities, and accomplishments to potential employers instead. Merit is a much better sell than fulfilling sexual favors when it comes to a job promotion.

4. Go outside the concrete jungle.

D.C. can be a wild, crazy place. (It’s a swamp, after all.) However, if you’re looking for more thrills than barhopping or attending a Congressional hearing, go to the outdoors. Scout out nearby lakes, rivers, beaches, and trails. Go fishing, shoot some guns at the range, hike in the Shenandoah Valley, explore wine country, and check out the Chesapeake Bay. Looking to be more adventurous? Road-trip to one of the six states neighboring the DMV. Get some fresh air and deplug for a day or two.

Join the #LadyGang: Pictures and Video from The Dana Show

Last week, I had the great pleasure of appearing on The Dana Show on The Blaze alongside my sister Anna Maria and gal pals Ashe Schow, Ashley Sewell, Bethany Bowra, and Lauren Luxenburg. This was my first time on TV–an experience I will forever cherish.

We went on Dana Loesch’s show to discuss REAL women’s issues beyond birth control and abortion. I was one of six panelists on the program. We were also joined by an all-female studio audience. (Conservatives hate women? WRONG.)

Here’s more about the program from The Blaze:

Dana Loesch has been an outspoken critic of the so-called “war on women” since its inception, saying Democrats are conflating actual rights with the non-existent right to have other people pay for your birth control.

On her Blaze TV show Friday, Loesch brought in an audience full of women to weigh in on the controversy, finishing the show with a mock “pajama party” where she read some of the hate mail she received this week.

“The female resistance marches on,” she said. “We’re bringing the war on women to them.”

One of Loesch’s main issues with the “war on women” was that it relied on women to “accept premises at face value.”

Women were essentially told, she said: “If we don’t pass healthcare we’re going to starve because we don’t have birth control for sexual recreation purposes! Old, white, Republican men [will] physically block our access to contraceptives by refusing to pay for them! And women, we have to vote for Barack Obama if we want the right to vote! Forget that we already have it. We need it again!”

Tired Of #BroChoice? Meet Young Men Who Are Standing For Life

stand4life

The socio-political-cultural blog Counter Cultured released a video called “Young Men Speaking Out for Life” today. The blog, which is managed by my sister Anna Maria, aims to merge culture and conservatism.

Here’s more about the video:

Often, abortion advocates silence men from speaking out against abortion, arguing that they cannot have a say in an abortion, because it’s not “their body.” Recently, we have heard much talk about the #BroChoice movement, which sadly consists of men pushing for abortion.

Countering all of that, 28 young men from across America participated in our pro-life young men’s video project, answering two questions: “Why are you pro-life?” and “Why should men be pro-life?” Clearly, these young men have an important message for America: men also matter when it comes to abortion, and that the unborn child in the womb is their child too. We hope this video inspires more young men to proudly speak out for life and tell the mainstream media and abortion advocates that they will be silenced no more.

Examiner.Com Article Profiles My Sister Anna Maria (@AM_Hoffman), Counter Cultured (@CCultured)

An article about my sister Anna Maria Hoffman (Counter Cultured founder/blogger) appears in Examiner.com today.

Here is an excerpt from the article:

For those inclined to believe there are no young people in line to inherit the mantle of perpetuating the traditional values which have wrought God’s blessings upon the U.S.A., Examiner gives you Anna Maria Hoffman.

While many Christian youth fritter away the time playing “church,” being trendy and “tolerant” sipping their Starbucks Grande Frappuccinos, and discussing what new “ink” they want next, this remarkable, God-fearing lady at the tender age of 20 devotes an abundant part of hers championing traditional values.

An outspoken apologist of Christian morality, particularly – but certainly not exclusively – through the Counter Cultured blog she created and co-administrates with others including her sister Gabriella, Anna Maria is engaging the American culture head-on and full-out.

By all appearances a kind-hearted but certainly most uncompromising soul, this conservative pro-life, pro-natural marriage activist bravely jumps into the fray in a manner which would weaken the knees of many other Christians.

Anna Maria has been active interning for the D.C. based Family Research Council in the past and intends to return this summer after she graduates (this week) from UC San Diego with a B.A. in Human Development.

This despite having been inside the FRC facility during last year’s shooting in which heroic building manager Leo Johnson was shot and wounded while thwarting what could easily have been a horrific killing spree.
