Introducing Campus Reform Online’s Opinion Columnist

logo_header

Wonderful news – I will pen weekly op-ed columns on Campus Reform Online (CRO)–Leadership Institute’s news publication–each Sunday starting May 19, 2013. For those of you who don’t know, CRO is the #1 source for campus news.

Here’s more about Campus Reform:

Campus Reform, a project of the Leadership Institute, is America’s leading site for college news.

As a watchdog to the nation’s higher education system, Campus Reform exposes bias, abuse, waste, and fraud on the nation’s college campuses.

Our team of professional journalists works alongside student activists and student journalists to report on the conduct and misconduct of university administrators, faculty, and students.

Campus Reform holds itself to rigorous journalism standards and strives to present each story with accuracy, objectivity, and public accountability.

They will focus on higher education and leftist abuses on campus. Many CRO stories have caught the attention of the Drudge Report and similar news outlets. Be sure to look out for them starting next Sunday and to follow stories my co-workers report on at CRO.

If you’re a college student and want to send a tip about a leftist abuse on campus, email contact@campusreform.org.

‘There’s Some Good in This World…And It’s Worth Fighting For’

keep calm

Tomorrow I embark on a nine-day journey to the Northeast. I will traverse the region and visit students in Boston, New Haven, NYC, and Newark. Sadly, this territory isn’t kind to travelers of the conservative persuasion.  But in the name of freedom and liberty, we must do our best to reclaim it – especially universities there.

To quote Lord of the Rings: “…there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo… and it’s worth fighting for.”

Not all young people are goose-stepping Obamanites. The countless students I meet and work with are frustrated by this administration. Nevertheless their enthusiasm, their energy, and their indomitable spirit to advance conservative principles on campus will propel our movement in the right direction.

I couldn’t ask for a better or more rewarding job than this. My students in the Northeast give me hope. I empathize with them because I too was a conservative student in a heavily blue state. I know how difficult it is to advance a conservative message on campus.

That being said, we can and we must take back our campuses. Conservatism is still worth fighting for there. Don’t give up!

If I come across anything interesting or newsworthy, I’ll be sure to blog about it here. Be sure to follow my musings on Facebook or on Twitter at @Gabby_Hoffman!

Justen Charters and I started this movement two months after seeing the need to create an outlet for young conservatives. After much thought and consideration, we came up with Resistance 44 to “resist” the leftist policies that are ruining this country.

Holocaust Survivor Irving Roth Comes to San Diego September 14th

This Wednesday, September 14, Holocaust survivor and campus speaker Irving Roth is coming to San Diego to speak about his life.

Sponsors of the event include Christians United for Israel-California and CUFI on Campus.

More information can be found on CUFI’s website and on the Facebook event:

The event will take place on Wednesday, September 14 from  7:00pm – 9:00pm.

The event will be held at:

Father’s House Church
2705 Via Orange Way, Ste A
Spring Valley, CA 91978

The event is free and open to all people.

Here is some more information about the speaker:

IRVING ROTH is the Director of the Holocaust Resource Center at the Temple Judea of Manhasset, New York, and is the former education director of the Holocaust Memorial and Education Center of Nassau County. An internationally known educator, Mr. Roth has endeavored to teach people about the Holocaust and the lessons that can be learned from that experience. Many people throughout his community owe their knowledge of the Holocaust to Mr. Roth. Steve Pagiavlas, the art director of the Holocaust Resource Center at the Temple Judea of Manhasset, says he is “…the most prolific Holocaust speaker I have ever heard.” Mr. Roth has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades for his work promoting a more accepting and diverse world. It is his life’s mission to make the world a better place that has earned Mr. Roth the Spirit of Anne Frank Award.

This is a unique, one-of-a-kind experience for all to learn about the Holocaust and its toll on Jews, Christians, and the rest of the world. A first hand account is the best way to learn about the travesties that marked and defined the Holocaust. We must never forget.

Hope to see you there!

Happy Lemonade Freedom Day!

Today, August 20, 2o11, marks Lemonade Freedom Day.

From the Facebook event:

Please join us on August 20, 2011 and set up your own lemonade stand. We need to send a message to everyone who is listening. They can not shut down the kids lemonade stands. If you do not have kids or do not want to set up your own lemonade stand, please support a local kid’s lemonade stand. Selling lemonade is not a crime!

Check out the promo video for Lemonade Freedom Day:

If you decide to sell lemonade on August 20, 2011, be sure to follow these guidelines:

  • Always be respectful of any officials, follow their instructions even if they are wrong, and do not antagonize them.
  • Ask what is the statute or regulation that gives them the authority to shut down the stand, and what are the grounds for doing so.
  • Ask if the law or regulation specifically empowers them to shut down the stand or merely issue tickets for violations, especially a first violation.
  • Ask the officer if there are any exceptions in the rule for businesses owned and operated by minors, or businesses that earn below a certain amount (which may be referred to in the law or regulations as “de minimus”).
  • Ask to see the law or regulation.
  • Get the officer’s name and badge number, or if not a police officer, the official’s name, agency or department, and job title.
  • If possible, record the entire interaction on video (even if just a cell phone). *Please be aware of your state’s laws in regards to recording public officials. In some states it may be illegal.*
  • Do not offer the officials anything (including free lemonade) to overlook the violation.
  • Again, always be respectful of any officials, follow their instructions even if they are wrong, and do not antagonize them.

UC-San Diego V-DAY Co-Director Sends Odd E-mail

This past evening, I received an e-mail from the director of The Vagina Monologues at UCSD.

The e-mail reads:

Hi Gabriella,

My name is Van Nguyen and I am the co-director of The Vagina Monologues at UCSD this year. It has been brought to my attention by several members of V-day that you have recently posted a conflicting image in regards to The Vagina Monologues. As a key member in this organization, I would like to extend an invitation to this year production on opening night.

We would love to take this opportunity to educate you about our organization. There will be a ticket waiting for you at will-call on Wednesday, February 16th at the PC East Ballroom. Doors open at 7pm and show begins at 8pm. If you are able to make it, I believe this will be a valuable experience for you.

Sincerely,
Van Nguyen

Although the director was kind enough to offer me an invitation to the play, Nguyen largely ignores the fact that I have not produced any written material (i.e. articles, print articles, or blog posts) criticizing The Vagina Monologues thus far.

Before she, her respective organization, and the cast wage a full-fledged campaign against any critique of the play, I would kindly appreciate criticism after an article is published, not beforehand.

Counter Gaza Rally in Balboa Park, San Diego–January 9th, 2011

On January 9th, 2011, the San Diego Israel Coalition held a counter Pro-Israel Protest to the Gaza Massacre Demonstration. Here are pictures from the event. Obviously, our side had a high turnout compared to the Palestinian side. It was a marvelous turnout and jovial event with singing, dancing, smiling, etc. Compared to the jovial and friendly Israel supporters, the Palestinian side resorted to shouting, screaming, and the like.

I was glad to be a part of this event with many of my friends and fellow Israel supporters!
