Antonia Okafor is someone you need to familiarize yourself with if you haven’t already. A native of Texas, Antonia currently serves as the Southwest Director of Students for Concealed Carry and has worked on the Rand Paul for President campaign. Not only is she a dedicated activist for freedom-minded ideas, she’s smart as a whip with her educational background; she received her undergraduate degree from University of Texas-Dallas and is pursuing her masters degree there.
She recently testified before the Texas Senate Committee on State Affairs about the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston prohibiting firearms in most of their buildings. She also regularly appears on the NRA News program Cam and Company. We believe her story and her activism are noteworthy. Check out our interview with her below!
GH: Tell our readers who you are. Why are you conservative/libertarian?
AO: I can honestly say that I wear quite a few hats, but to be concise, I am an aspiring law student and the Southwest Regional Director for Students for Concealed Carry and locally, I am the precinct chair for my local county’s Republican party. I am a conservative, or rather a “conservatarian” because I believe that a limited government allows individuals to be the most free and live a life of freedom, happiness and prosperity. I actually voted for Obama in 2008 and more reluctantly so, in 2012. The ever increasing debt of this country and the ever expanding role of government in my life, changed my mind after 2012. It was shortly after that I realized that I am not only a Republican, but a conservative. Because fiscal issues and gun rights issues are very important to me, I believe getting more involved with the “liberty movement” was a natural progression. Less government, more freedom is a mantra that I hold dear to me, daily.
When it comes to world-class fishing, these eight states offer more opportunities than one would believe.
When one thinks of great fishing states, places like California and Florida first come to mind. However, there are eight states that offer great, albeit different fishing opportunities for anglers to pursue. In no particular order, here are eight states with highly underrated fishing opportunities.
Founded in 1607, the Commonwealth of Virginia is one of the oldest states in the country with a history grounded in fishing that traces back to the Jamestown settlement. Today, Virginia offers world-class fishing through its numerous lakes, streams, rivers, and the Atlantic Ocean. Whether it’s seeking out flounder in the Eastern Shore, deep-sea fishing for tuna in Virginia Beach, trout fishing throughout the state, or largemouth bass fishing in the Potomac River, the Old Dominion State will draw in anglers who crave action-packed fishing surrounded by rich history and beautiful landscapes.
To learn more about fishing in Virginia, check out the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.
Known for its endless rain and world-famous coffee, Washington is an underrated hub for freshwater and saltwater fishing enthusiasts. With its proximity to Canada and location on the Pacific Ocean, this state has some amazing fish species to seek out like salmon, sturgeon, and halibut. The Columbia River, the largest river in the Pacific Northwest, is said to be a great fishing spot. Freshwater and saltwater anglers will appreciate the endless fishing opportunities in this naturally beautiful state.

In recent days, there has been much uproar about Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and the campaign to fully #DefundObamaCare.
Cruz, who’s been in office since January, has stood out from many of his GOP colleagues for boldly articulating conservatism. He hasn’t wavered on campaign promises. He’s also been a tireless defender of strong national defense, traditional values, and economic freedom. Cruz has irked the GOP establishment and rightly so – they aren’t acting like contrarians.
Imagine that – a U.S. senator who’s actually doing his job? How radical!
It’s no surprise that the Old Guard, chiefly Senator John McCain and Karl Rove, is attacking Sen. Cruz. Why? Because they fear him.
To the John McCain’s and Karl Rove’s of the world: Your ilk — the kind that seeks to grow its influence, win or lose, at the expense of principles — is a hindrance to our success as a movement. It was recently revealed that McCain said “he “f***ing hates” Ted Cruz (he previously called Cruz and Rand Paul “wacko birds“), while Karl Rove adamantly worked to defeat Cruz in the U.S. Senate primary in Texas and has routinely bashed him.
Their blatant arrogance, their continual caving to our opponents, and their tireless efforts to undermine conservative candidates has shown through. They could care less about the ramifications of awful legislation like ObamaCare because it’s easier to settle for the status quo. They don’t care about the values that make this country great because they want to be nicey nice with the very people who wish ill on her. They are a gutless, spineless bunch that obstructs and prevents us from implementing true, lasting change. They cave on ALL issues – fiscal and social – because politics is just a game to them.
Enough is enough.
We in the grassroots, along with ordinary Americans struggling to keep their businesses afloat and those who wish to lead a good life, desire real leadership. We like Senator Ted Cruz, Senator Rand Paul, Senator Mike Lee, and others because they actually do their jobs, follow through with promises, and aren’t afraid to shake things up. If people like them upset you, John and Karl, tough luck. President Reagan said it best: “When you can’t make them see the light, make them feel the heat.”
Empty GOP platitudes are now a thing of the past. Get used to bold, in-your-face conservatism.

The socio-political-cultural blog Counter Cultured released a video called “Young Men Speaking Out for Life” today. The blog, which is managed by my sister Anna Maria, aims to merge culture and conservatism.
Here’s more about the video:
Often, abortion advocates silence men from speaking out against abortion, arguing that they cannot have a say in an abortion, because it’s not “their body.” Recently, we have heard much talk about the #BroChoice movement, which sadly consists of men pushing for abortion.
Countering all of that, 28 young men from across America participated in our pro-life young men’s video project, answering two questions: “Why are you pro-life?” and “Why should men be pro-life?” Clearly, these young men have an important message for America: men also matter when it comes to abortion, and that the unborn child in the womb is their child too. We hope this video inspires more young men to proudly speak out for life and tell the mainstream media and abortion advocates that they will be silenced no more.

Today I have a new column out in Townhall.com discussing my thoughts on the “Gang of Eight’s” so-called immigration reform bill.
Here is an excerpt:
“America is a nation of immigrants, built by immigrants and we need to honor that heritage by fixing our broken immigration system, while upholding the rule of law and championing legal immigration,” said Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) in a statement last week when offering an amendment to the Schumer-Rubio immigration bill.
Cruz, the son of a legal Cuban immigrant, is absolutely correct.
Immigration is the foundation of this great nation. Millions of immigrants from all over the world have flocked here to better their lives. Anyone who comes here and becomes American can make it if they work hard and realize their full potential. That is why legal immigration must be encouraged.
Sadly, lawmakers are more interested in trading our sovereignty for votes and political favors a la amnesty.
